Vouchsafe partners with Carefree to help carers access vital breaks
Vouchsafe is proud to announce a new partnership with Carefree, a leading digital charity that turns empty hotel rooms into vital breaks for unpaid carers.
Together, we’re breaking down barriers to make sure carers can access the wellbeing support they need to carry on caring.
A critical challenge
In the UK, 11 million people lack a passport or driving license—still essential forms of ID for many services. Unpaid carers are disproportionately affected, often facing financial challenges and limited access to driving and other forms of travel. Verifying their status as carers only adds to the complexity.
The power of the vouch
By integrating Vouchsafe’s secure and inclusive identity verification, Carefree now offers carers a seamless way to verify their identity, even without a photo ID. Vouchsafe’s unique features enable a trusted referee to vouch for a user’s identity, and also their status as a carer. This innovative approach simplifies registration, improves access, and prevents misuse of Carefree’s service.
More breaks for unpaid carers
Through this partnership, Carefree is set to increase successful user registrations, helping more carers benefit from short breaks, whilst maintaining the trust of its accommodation partners who donate their excess capacity to the charity.
A partnership for inclusion
Supported by Innovate UK, this partnership exemplifies Vouchsafe’s commitment to creating inclusive solutions that remove barriers for underserved communities.
Chloe Coleman, CEO of Vouchsafe, says:
“We believe in creating solutions that make a real difference for real people. Our partnership with Carefree showcases how technology and compassion can come together to remove barriers and ensure unpaid carers get the opportunities they deserve.”
Charlotte Newman, CEO of Carefree says:
“Unpaid carers provide £163bn of care every year to underpin our healthcare system but without a national identification mechanism, they go without the recognition and support that is generally given to NHS workers. Partnering with Vouchsafe to address the challenges of identity verification will help more carers to be recognised and supported in their caring role.’’
