Classic verification flows will soon be deprecated
TL;DR: Your verification flows will be automatically upgraded from 18 May. Most customers do not need to take any action.
Earlier this month, we introduced new verification flows, a major upgrade to Vouchsafe platform, in preview.
They are much easier for end users as well as safer for businesses, because they emphasise digital evidence and official data over old-fashioned document checks.
From Monday 18 May 2026, we will begin to automatically convert classic verification flows into new ones, as we prepare to deprecate the classic builder.
No downtime or user-facing interruption is expected, and team admins will be notified by email when the change has taken place.
What exactly will change?
You will use our new, redesigned builder to manage your flows, and your users will see a brand new set of verification screens.
Some unusual or insecure configurations, such as proving identity with paper supporting documents, will no longer be possible as we push users toward easier, safer alternatives.
What do I need to do?
In most cases, nothing.
Automatically converted flows will retain the same IDs, so integrations you have made with Vouchsafe will continue to work as they do now.
The new flows work slightly differently, so if you haven’t already, watch our 5 minute video guide and consider if you need to update any published guidance to your own customers.
What if I have a complex or critical setup?
We have already contacted all customers we believe will need to take action, but even if we haven’t, you can get in touch with us to book time to conduct the move manually.
Our customer success team can work with you to set up the equivalent flows in the new system.
What if I prefer the current functionality?
The new setup deliberately says goodbye to some functionality we have found to be footguns, in the interests of making it safer and easier to get people verified.
It also takes away options to configure certain low-level aspects of the process, like exactly how referees have their identity checked.
But it also makes it easier to confidently change other aspects, by giving a real-time preview of how the verification journey will be affected.
We don’t take big product decisions like this one lightly. The changes are based on years of user and customer feedback and data gathered about real-world usage.
It is a major leap forward in secure, inclusive design and is an excellent foundation for us to keep improving in the coming months.
Book time to have your flows moved over manually here, or to give feedback on the new flows and how you are finding them.
