Vouchsafe raises £1m to build the next generation of identity verification

We’re so happy to share that we’ve closed an oversubscribed £1 million pre-seed funding round, led by Bethnal Green Ventures. BGV is Europe’s leading tech-for-good VC, and we’ve benefited immensely from their support and expertise over the past year.
Also participating are Biometric Ventures, Fuel Ventures, Seed X Liechtenstein and angel investor Andrew Chevis, CEO of CitizenCard.
With this funding, things get really exciting. Now we can take on ID poverty at scale and push Vouchsafe to the forefront of identity verification and fraud prevention.
Our mission is solving ID poverty
One billion people around the world don’t have good photo ID, including 11 million right here in the UK, and it’s getting harder and harder to access life’s essentials without it. Meanwhile, generative AI is making identity fraud more sophisticated and harder to spot.
Right now, identity verification is leaving millions behind while fraudsters race ahead. We deserve a system that protects everyone, not just those with perfect paperwork.
What this means for our movement
We’re adding new features that make Vouchsafe even more powerful, like:
- Alerts: Simple, continuous due diligence to help businesses stay ahead of risk.
- Smart lookups: Our industry-leading background checks can now be used on their own, even if identity verification isn’t part of your onboarding process.
- More ways for people to prove who they are, including new and rare kinds of evidence.
Vouchsafe is now scaling up, helping one million Scots access public services with the Scottish Government and expanding access to credit with Fair4All Finance.
